Architectural and landscape typologies
Draguignan has built its legend around a dragon, a fairy and a Roman soldier.
- Draguignan, a thousand-year-old town, has been home to the first human settlements since Neolithic times.
- In antiquity, the first farms were established on the site known as Saint Hermentaire.
- However, it wasn’t until the year 1000 that a village grew up around the castrum.
Tourism supply and demand typology
The town’s many strengths include its geographical position near the Gorges du Verdon, at the crossroads between the sea (30 minutes from the coast) and the mountains (1 hour from the ski resorts), and its high-quality living environment.
Draguignan is easily accessible from the freeway, the Les Arcs-Draguignan SNCF train station and the airports of Hyères, Nice and Marseille (between 60 and 90 minutes). It also offers an intra-regional bus network.
Its attractiveness is mainly due to :
- Downtown shops: a wide range of shops, Provencal market;
- Outdoor activities: cycling, horse riding, hiking, climbing;
- Visits (monuments and museums/exhibition centers), sites, wineries.
However, a hotel offer remains to be developed.
