Paipa, the tourist capital of Boyacá department, located 45 km from Tunja, is characterized by its thermal springs and pools, its history and the wide variety of events that take place there, such as the national music competition, the Ruana and Pañolón festival, the Lake Sochagota festival, fairs and festivals, among others. Its main attractions include Lake Sochagota, ideal for water sports, the Pantano de Vargas historic site and its extensive hotel and service infrastructure. Also noteworthy are the handicrafts, both local and imported from other regions, and the gastronomy, which includes traditional almojábanas, masato, colaciones, cheeses and the wide variety of typical dishes on offer in the town’s various restaurants and grills.
